Barbie adds an iconic figure to their Inspiring Women line!
The Barbie Inspiring Women Series pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time. And now the nation’s first self-made female millionaire, Madam. C.J. Walker, has been added to Barbie’s line of Inspiring Women dolls.
Born under the name Sarah Breedlove, Walker was the daughter of former slaves. She became a successful entrepreneur founding Walker Manufacturing Co., a line of hair care products and cosmetics designed specifically for Black women.
Throughout her life, Walker supported orphanages and Black colleges and advocated for civil rights organizations and women’s rights.
Walker’s great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles collaborated with Mattel to add Walker to the Inspiring Women Series line of dolls.
“Their design team graciously welcomed me throughout all steps of the process — from hair development to packaging — to capture and celebrate the legacy of this trailblazing Black businesswoman. I can’t wait for a new generation to be inspired by her story and to tell their own stories through a role model who came before them.” — A’Lelia Bundles
The Madam C.J. Walker Barbie Doll features a full-length skirt and a blouse with floral print and ruffled details in lavender and purple — Walker’s favorite colors! It also comes complete with a mini-replica of her original product, Wonderful Hair Grower.
The doll would make a great gift for someone special in your life, or the perfect addition to your collection! It is currently out of stock at Walmart.com, Target.com, and Amazon, but be sure to keep your eyes peeled in-store and check back as it gets restocked!
